 Focus Awards vs VTCT Skills / ITEC

At Sports Massage Training UK, we offer qualifications through Focus Awards and VTCT Skills, including ITEC qualifications.

Both are established awarding organisations offering nationally recognised, regulated qualifications.

Are both awarding bodies recognised?

Yes. Focus Awards and VTCT Skills are recognised awarding organisations, and the regulated qualifications we deliver are listed on the Regulated Qualifications Framework where applicable.

This means they must meet national requirements for qualification design, assessment and quality assurance.

The awarding body is responsible for:

* Designing and approving the qualification
* Setting the learning outcomes and assessment requirements
* Monitoring the quality of approved training centres
* Externally quality-assuring learners’ work
* Issuing the final qualification certificate

Focus Awards

Focus Awards is an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation providing vocational qualifications across areas including sport, fitness, education, health, social care and beauty.

Our Focus Awards pathways may be particularly suitable for learners who require:

* A more flexible learning structure

* A combination of online study and practical training

* Portfolio-based assessments

* Practical observations and video evidence, where permitted

* Training that can be completed around employment and other commitments

Learners must still demonstrate the required knowledge, practical ability and professional competence before receiving their qualification.

VTCT Skills and ITEC

VTCT Skills is a specialist vocational and technical awarding organisation.

ITEC qualifications now sit within the VTCT Skills qualification portfolio, with many qualifications carrying the VTCT Skills (ITEC) name.

VTCT Skills and ITEC have a long history within massage, beauty, complementary therapy and related vocational industries.

Depending on the selected qualification, assessment may include:

* Written assignments and portfolios

* Practical observations

* Case studies and treatment evidence

* Multiple-choice theory examinations

* Practical examinations

* Assessment or moderation involving an external examiner

The exact assessment method depends on the qualification specification rather than simply the name of the awarding body.

Which qualification should I choose?

Neither route should be viewed as automatically “better” than the other.

The most suitable option depends on:

* Your preferred assessment method

* How quickly you want to complete your training

* Whether you require flexible or classroom-based learning

* Your future employment or education plans

* The requirements of your insurer, employer or professional association

The qualification’s level, regulated status, content and learning outcomes are more important than choosing a course based only on the awarding body’s name.

Our team will explain the available pathways and help you select the qualification that best supports your career goals.

This wording avoids claiming that one awarding body is easier, superior or more recognised than the other, while still highlighting the flexibility of the Focus Awards route.
